The Newsletter of the Section on Data Mining will
be published two times a year, once in the spring and once in the fall. The
fall newsletter will be published in time for the INFORMS Annual Conference.
Archives of newsletters will be maintained on this page. The Fall 2004
newsletter is now available.
Right now, we are gathering material for the first
issue to be published in spring 2004. The newsletter will publish articles,
news, and announcements relevant to the Section on Data Mining and its member.
This will include:

For inclusion in the Spring 2004 newsletter, please
submit your contribution by April 5th, 2004.
I would like to note a special opportunity for
Ph.D. students and recent graduates to publicize their research. If you would
like to publish an abstract of your recently or soon to be completed
dissertations in the newsletter, please submit the following information
electronically to the editor:
w
Dissertation Title
w
Institution
w
Graduate date (expected or actual)
w
Advisor Name
w
Abstract (about 500 words)
The Editor reserves the
right to select abstracts for publication in the newsletter, and abstracts that
greatly exceed the length recommendation will be edited for length. The timing
of the dissertation should be approximately within six months of the
publication of the newsletter (e.g., dissertation abstracts of graduates from
December 2003 or May 2004 would be appropriate in the Spring 2004 issue, and
dissertation abstracts of graduates from May or December 2004 would be
appropriate for the Fall 2004 issue).
Your ideas for future issues are always welcome. If
you have news or announcements that you wish to share with the member of this
section, or if you have suggestions for regular features to include in the
newsletter, please call or email the newsletter editor.
